GRAND ISLAND - A fire destroyed a house Monday afternoon in west Grand Island. The Grand Island Fire Department was dispatched at 4:35 p.m. to 313 Cardinal Drive to a home engulfed in flames. According to Battalion Chief Scott Kuehl, all four stations responded to heavy fire and smoke conditions at a trailer home. The fire was extinguished in roughly 15 minutes.

Three occupants exited the home safely when crews arrived. Kuehl said they were alerted that a dog was still inside the home during the fire. Crews rescued the dog and provided it with oxygen. None of the occupants were injured. The dog was sent to a local veterinarian for precautionary reasons.

The fire started on the front patio and quickly spread to the side of the home before entering the living room.

It's believed the home is a total loss.

Red Cross is taking care of the family.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.

The Grand Island Police Department assisted at the scene.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family. The link is below.
