NDOT Announces New District Engineer for South-Central Nebraska
April 29, 2026 (Grand Island, Neb.) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has named Eric Klein as the new District 4 Engineer. Klein succeeds Wes Wahlgren, who served as the District 4 Engineer for 21 years. District 4 includes 17 counties in south-central Nebraska.
Wahlgren will retire from the NDOT in June, concluding a 37-year career. Wahlgren started as a Bridge Inspection Engineer in 1989 before serving as a Project Manager in NDOT’s District 1 office in Lincoln.
In 2001, Wahlgren was promoted to Assistant Construction Engineer in District 1, and was promoted to District 4 Engineer in 2005.
“Over 20 years ago, Wes and I started our careers as District Engineers on the same day,” said Kurt Vosburg, NDOT Deputy Director of Operations and former District 7 Engineer. “It has been a pleasure to work alongside him all of these years, and I thank him for his decades of service to Nebraska.”
Klein’s career at NDOT began in 2011 as a Construction Technician. Klein held roles in Project Management before becoming the District 4 Project Delivery Engineer. He has served as the District 4 Construction Engineer in Grand Island since 2019.
“Eric has played an important part of the District 4 team for many years, and I have full confidence in his ability to step into this role,” Vosburg said. “His experience, leadership, and commitment to Nebraska will take him far and serve the district well.”
