Two GIPS Educators Honored with Statewide Awards
GRAND ISLAND (Neb.) — It has been a landmark week for local education as two of our own have been recognized for their tireless dedication, leadership, and impact on the lives of students. From statewide advocacy for neurodiversity to excellence in the classroom, these awards highlight the high caliber of professionals shaping our community’s future.
Cassie Blase, special education supervisor, was presented with the Nebraska Friend of Autism Administrator award during the annual state conference in early April, hosted by the Nebraska Autism Spectrum Disorders Network.
Blase is passionate about creating inclusive environments for all students, especially those on the autism spectrum. Her daily work helps ensure students on the spectrum receive the support and resources they need to thrive.
Receiving the Friends of Autism Administrator Award, Blase mentioned, is a meaningful honor and a reflection of the shared commitment to all students in the GIPS community.
“We remain dedicated to educating, advocating, and fostering a culture of belonging where individuals — especially those with autism — are supported, celebrated, and empowered to thrive,” Blase continued, “This recognition reinforces the importance and dedication to inclusive practices that ensure all students feel valued and connected.”
Dr. Amanda Levos, EL Director & Equity Systems Navigator, also earned a prestigious honor recently, as she was named the Nebraska State winner of the Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Excellence in Education Award. The award was presented at the Nebraska State Convention on April 11 in Norfolk, Nebraska.
The ADK Excellence in Education award recognizes active educators who inspire students and uplift colleagues with integrity, contribute to the community through continuous growth and passion, and emphasize the mission of supporting women in the education profession.
“I love this work because it unites us in support of every student and constantly pushes me to advocate for systems that expand opportunity,” Levos shared. “Partnering with educators, families, and especially our multilingual learners is a true privilege,” she said.
Levos added that while receiving the award is humbling, it reflects the collective impact of those she learns from every day. She said the example of those in the Nebraska chapter inspires her and reaffirms her commitment to leading, learning, and amplifying student voices.
The recognition of both Cassie Blase and Dr. Amanda Levos serves as a reminder of the impact dedicated educators have on our schools. Their achievements set a high standard for excellence and provide a roadmap for future leaders in the field.
Congratulations to both recipients on these well-deserved honors!
